Eva Buzo is a barrister, author, and open water swimmer. She grew up in Sans Souci in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney – Australia, and has been a member of Wanda Surf Life Saving Club since childhood.
Eva Buzo grew up in Sans Souci in southern Sydney.
As a barrister, Eva practises from Black Chambers with a focus on international criminal law and corporate accountability. She holds a position on the Justice Rapid Response expert roster and is admitted to the NSW Bar. She holds degrees from the University of New South Wales, the University of Hamburg, and the Australian National University.
Eva is the founder and Executive Director of hūmānus, a Dutch-registered lawyers’ collective with accountability programmes globally. The organisation works with survivors of mass human rights violations through litigation, documentation, and systemic advocacy.
In the water, Eva holds multiple world records in open water marathon swimming. In August 2024, she became the first woman to complete a solo crossing of the Strait of Otranto, the 92-kilometre passage between Otranto in Italy and the Albanian coast, completed in just under 35 hours. She holds the record for the earliest crossing of the English Channel for a female, and the first person to swim from Juanchaco to Buenaventura in Colombia. Eva is based between London and Sydney.
