Eva Buzo grew up in Sans Souci in the Sutherland Shire, where she attended Ramsgate Public School and Caringbah High School. She joined Wanda Surf Life Saving Club as a nipper and was coached by Greg Rogers and Kevin Nielson.

As a barrister, Eva practises from Black Chambers with a focus on international criminal law and corporate accountability. She holds a position on the Justice Rapid Response expert roster and is admitted to the NSW Bar. She holds degrees from the University of New South Wales, the University of Hamburg, and the Australian National University.

Her forthcoming book, Unravelling Hell, to be published by Cambridge University Press in 2026, draws on her years working on the frontlines of the Rohingya crisis in Cox’s Bazar and her journey to becoming the barrister for Rohingya leader Mohib Ullah, who was assassinated in the camps in 2021. It represents her most sustained scholarly contribution to the field and draws on years of frontline legal and advocacy work.

Eva is the founder and Executive Director of hūmānus, a Dutch-registered lawyers’ collective with accountability programmes globally. The organisation works with survivors of mass human rights violations through litigation, documentation, and systemic advocacy.

In the water, Eva holds multiple world records in open water marathon swimming. In August 2024, she became the first woman to complete a solo crossing of the Strait of Otranto, the 92-kilometre passage between Otranto in Italy and the Albanian coast, completed in just under 35 hours. She has also completed a peace swim in Colombia, the English Channel, and a crossing of Lake Geneva.

Eva is based between London and Sydney.
