The Strait of Otranto, August 2024
In August 2024, Eva became the first woman to complete a solo crossing of the Strait of Otranto, the 92-kilometre passage between Santa Maria di Leuca on Italy’s southern tip and the Albanian coast. The crossing took approximately 34 hours.
The Strait of Otranto is one of the most demanding open water passages in Europe, exposed to Adriatic and Ionian weather systems, active shipping lanes, and significant tidal and current variation. Eva completed the swim in compliance with marathon swimming rules, unassisted and solo. She began her preparation in the ocean off the Shire.
English Channel, June 2024
Eva swam the storied English Channel on 6 June 2024: the first person to undertake the swim on D-Day, across the same stretch of water that Allied Troops crossed to take Normandy and change the trajectory of World War 2. It was the first crossing of the 2024 season and Eva was awarded the 2024 Special Recognition Award for the Channel from the Jersey Long Distance Swimming Committee acknowledging the difficulty of undertaking the Channel so early in the season under such difficult conditions. Eva’s Channel Crossing was blessed however by a seal, Trudy, who joined her for part of the swim causing her swim to receive international media attention.
Colombia peace swim, June 2025
Eva completed a 40 kilometre swim in Colombia, supported from Juanchaco to Buenaventura to celebrate the resilience of the community and bring attention to the tireless efforts of civil society fighting to end violence in the conflict-affected community.
Lake Geneva, June 2022
Eva swam 58 kilometres across Lake Geneva from Chillion to Hermance in 25 hours and 19 minutes, profiled in the NSW Barristers Journal.
La Perouse to Watson’s Bay, April 2023
Eva swam 24 kilometres from La Perouse to Watson’s Bay, the first person to swim the entirely of the coast of Sydney’s eastern suburbs on ANZAC Day 2024.
Wanda Surf Life Saving Club
Eva joined Wanda Surf Life Saving Club as a nipper growing up in Sans Souci and was coached by Greg Rogers and Kevin Nielson. Wanda is one of the oldest surf life saving clubs in Australia. It is where the technical foundation of her open water career was built, and where she returns to train when she is home.
